The Student Energy Fellowship provides core energy systems education and builds project and leadership skills for young people to take action on the energy system, through an 8-month virtual program.
The Fellowship seeks to empower youth through a series of project-based assignments and learning modules with a focus on foundational energy education, early-stage project development, and problem identification. The program is divided into two tiers, with Tier 1 Fellows working on a project with their assigned coach, and Tier 2 Fellows working solely on the curriculum.
A tiered approach:
Tier 1 is intended for youth who can commit to developing a solid project idea over 8 months and completing a series of learning modules and assignment submissions. Fellows in Tier 1 will apply with an initial project idea in mind which they will develop with their coach in monthly meetings throughout the 8 months of the program. The 4 assignments serve as benchmarks in your project work and will help to define your project goals and scope.
Tier 2 is intended for youth who do not have a project idea, but are interested in getting a foundational energy education and network with other youth in this space. Fellows in Tier 2 will complete a series of learning modules assigned each month and attend workshops and webinars throughout the 8 months of the program. Learning modules can be completed at your own pace, but must be completed by the end of the program.
ACCELERATING YOUTH INNOVATION:
The course is broken down into two tracks: Track 1 is the energy knowledge component of the program, where we dive deep into the basics of the current energy system, and the different systems that influence it; Track 2 focuses on project and leadership skills, and allows Fellows to learn and practice these skills in relation to their projects.
SPECIALIZED COURSEWORK:
Each month you will be assigned a module from both Track 1 and Track 2. Each unit is packed with information, knowledge checks, interactive elements, and dive deeper resources. The skills you learn in each unit not only help you launch your project but are also core project and professional skills.
TIER 1 COACHING SESSIONS:
For those in Tier 1, at the beginning of the Fellowship, you and your team will be placed assigned a coach. Your team will meet with your Student Energy coach once a month for a project related coaching session. This is your opportunity to check-in and get advice on your project, so come prepared to ask questions.
Tier 1 PROJECT:
The project portion of the Student Energy Fellowship is designed to help Tier 1 Fellows apply and practice their learnings and skills gained throughout the program. Over the 8-months of the Fellowship, you and your team will design, plan, and potentially even launch a project that you are passionate about.
